On 10 and 11 May, the LIFE LYNXCONNECT Project organised a meeting with communicators from various fields and backgrounds to publicise the work carried out to bring the species back to this Autonomous Community.
Technicians from the Regional Government of Castile-La Mancha and the team of environmental agents who work daily to conserve the Iberian lynx accompanied the communicators on a tour of some of the estates where the populations of this jewel have grown, as well as the ‘El Chaparrillo’ Centre, where they were able to see first-hand the veterinary work that is an essential complement to the fieldwork.
They were able to discover the monitoring work carried out by technicians and environmental agents, as well as the use of telemetry antennas to receive signals emitted by the collars worn by the animals. The following day, they toured the facilities of the El Chaparrillo Wildlife Recovery Centre.
Beyond that, they had the opportunity to talk to numerous actors involved in this recovery process, from farm guards to regional technical managers, who are proof of how social cooperation and the joint commitment of different sectors has been key to recovering the populations of what was ‘the most endangered feline in the world’ in this region.
