LIFE LYNXCONNECT presents in the Spanish Senate, the result of 22 years of work and LIFE Projects.

LIFE LYNXCONNECT presents in the Spanish Senate, the result of 22 years of work and LIFE Projects, which have placed the Iberian Lynx as “vulnerable” on the IUCN Red List. The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, created in 1964, is the most comprehensive inventory of the conservation status of animal and plant species worldwide (https://www.iucnredlist.org/es).
The four LIFE Projects (https://lifelynxconnect.eu/antecedentes/), led by the Junta de Andalucía, have led to the recovery of the Iberian Lynx, which has gone from being on the verge of extinction to overcoming its critical state.
It is the first time that a feline has overcome the degree of critical danger of extinction (Red List 2002), and 22 years later it has recovered to the point where it can be considered as vulnerable.
We would like to thank all our partners, each and every one of them, for the work they have done over the years and congratulate them because part of the success is theirs (https://lifelynxconnect.eu/socios/).
Also society, state, regional and local administrations, NGOs, ecologists, hunters and game managers, researchers, technicians, landowners, private companies and a long list of others, where the main protagonists have been the people who share territory with the Iberian lynx and live in these villages in the Alentejo and in the provinces of Badajoz, Cáceres, Toledo, Ciudad Real, Albacete, Murcia, Córdoba, Jaén and Granada.
The social cohesion achieved around lynx conservation is perhaps one of the most outstanding political and social achievements of recent years. So much so that, beyond any ideology, we have been able to focus on safeguarding the habitat and its biodiversity as the basis of an environmental policy that is currently a reference in Europe.
