LIFE LYNXCONNECT meetings with hunters and managers in Andalusia come to an end
April 28, 2024
The Artemisan Foundation has concluded its route through Andalusia with meetings in the municipalities of Iznalloz (Sierra Arana, Granada) and Posadas (Córdoba) on the LIFE LYNXCONNECT project.
Both talks brought together an audience interested in the behaviour of the Iberian lynx, where they talked about how special this species is, showing real examples of encounters between hunters, landowners and Iberian lynx in the last year, and how their presence benefits hunting grounds. It is worth remembering that the town of Iznalloz is located within the Sierra Arana, an area where the LIFE LYNCONNECT project is working to create a new stable population centre for this species, through different habitat conditioning and reintroduction work.
The meetings, which aim to raise awareness of the initiative and resolve doubts about the Iberian lynx and its presence, are aimed at landowners and hunters. These talks are part of the dissemination work contemplated in this European project for the consolidation of the species.
To this end, the Artemisan Foundation, representing the hunting sector in the project, has had the collaboration of the Andalusian Hunting Federation, which has coordinated the contact with managers, owners of hunting grounds and hunters, with the aim of making them aware of their importance in the conservation of this species. Under the title “The Iberian lynx: everything you need to know”, the Artemisan Foundation has visited six municipalities, bringing together more than a hundred representatives of hunting societies and managers.
In short, these meetings serve to make contact with people who manage and have first-hand knowledge of the areas that LIFE LYNXCONNECT is choosing as the ideal habitat for the reintroduction of the Iberian lynx. Protagonists of the hunting sector who are essential for the recovery and conservation of this species to continue to be a success story.
