Situated in the south-central part of the region of Los Montes Orientales, in the province of Granada, Piñar is one of the municipalities that forms part of Sierra Arana, where the new Iberian lynx reintroduction nucleus in Andalusia is located within the LYNXCONNECT Project.
Last week the local mayor, Eloy García, held a meeting with the director of the LYNXCONNECT project, Javier Salcedo, who was joined by Francisco Marín, president of the local lynx reserve.
At the meeting, Javier Salcedo explained that this new reintroduction zone involves the creation of a suitable area for establishing new Iberian lynx populations and thus avoiding isolation between the different nuclei, favouring the exchange of individuals. In no case does it imply any restriction on the exploitation, use and enjoyment of the municipal area by its neighbours.
The Project is grateful for the enthusiasm and support of Piñar and its neighbours.
