LIFE LYNXCONNECT congratulates the Junta de Castilla y Leon for the reintroduction of ‘Virgo’ and ‘Vuelvepiedras’,
March 4, 2025
The President of the Junta de Castilla y Leon, Alfonso Fernandez Mañueco, has participated today in the Palencia municipality of Astudillo in the act of release of two Iberian lynx, ‘Virgo’ and ‘Vuelvepiedras’, the first of a total of six that the regional executive will reintegrate into the wild this year, within a project of reintroduction of this species in the Community.
Fernández Mañueco announced that the Junta de Castilla y León has invested almost two million euros, mainly in infrastructure, technical equipment and materials. The aim is to provide the Iberian lynx with a suitable environment for its survival in the Community, while at the same time promoting the economic and social development of the territory. This project will generate employment, encourage nature tourism and promote economic activities linked to the environment; it will also help to position Castilla y León as a sustainable destination of the first order.
