LIFE LYNXCONNECT congratulates Fundación Artemisan, one of the 21 partners in this transnational initiative, for contributing to the study of the historical importance of the hunting sector for the conservation of the Iberian lynx and other protected species in its book La caza en la evolución humana, una aproximación desde la Prehistoria: gestión, alimentación y procedimientos, produced together with the Atapuerca Research Team (EIA) and with the participation of 13 researchers specialised in hunting and human evolution.
Artemisan stresses that this publication, aimed at both the general and specialised public, seeks to highlight the relevance of hunting as an inherent element of human activity. To this end, it takes a journey from hunting out of necessity, practised since prehistoric times, to the arrival of the hunter-conservationist of the 21st century, who plays a fundamental role in environmental conservation.
The book reserves one of its chapters to develop the commitment of hunters, managers and owners to wildlife through the management of their properties and the investment of significant sums of money that they selflessly devote to ensuring the welfare of the species that live there, whether or not they are hunted. This, together with the fact that nearly 90% of Spanish territory is used for hunting, makes these actors the guardians of such emblematic species as the Iberian lynx.
