Working meeting of the LIFE LYNXCONNECT veterinary team.
July 5, 2022
On Thursday 23rd June, at the Centro Integral de Desarrollo de Zafra-Bodión, the health advisory group (Vetlynx) met for its annual meeting to discuss various issues related to the health and welfare of the Iberian lynx, distributed in the different populations of the Iberian peninsula and in the breeding centres.
Attendees included veterinarians and managers from the breeding centres, veterinary advisors from several private veterinary centres and from the Centro de Análisis y Diagnóstico de la Fauna Silvestre de Andalucía (Wildlife Analysis and Diagnosis Centre of Andalusia).
The meeting dealt with various issues of importance for the species, such as the control of different pathogens that may endanger the recovery of the species in the peninsula, possible genetic problems affecting the population or new anaesthesia techniques that can be applied in clinical procedures for the species.
These periodic meetings are vital for the correct development of the different actions of the LIFE LYNXCONNECT Project, especially in A1 (protocols), A6 and C5 (genetic aspects), and Action A9 (health status of ex-situ and in-situ populations).
