On 6, 7 and 8 April, the 5th Andalusian Road Congress was held in Granada, organised by the Spanish Road Association (AEC) and promoted by the Ministry of Development, Infrastructures and Territorial Planning of the Andalusian Regional Government under the slogan “Towards the next generation of C@roads”.
This meeting, which brought together more than 650 professionals from the sector, addressed as its main challenge for the future, the maintenance and conservation of the road network, as well as a new generation of more sustainable, digitalised and safer roads”.
In this forum, the technicians of the LIFE LYNXCONNECT Project presented to the different administrations and companies, the main actions that the project contemplates in the Andalusian roads and that suppose a novelty in the prevention of accidents with fauna, as well as an increase of the road safety and an improvement of the ecological connectivity.
Also and from the LIFE SAFE_CROSSING Project, in which the Regional Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Sustainable Development participates as an associated beneficiary and in the “poster session”, within the Technical Programme of the Congress, a poster was presented, which shows the two new technologies for the prevention of wildlife collisions and improvement of ecological connectivity, which will be applied for the first time in Andalusia: the installation of 27 systems for the prevention of collisions between animals and vehicles (AVC), these accident prevention devices will be installed at black or dangerous points on the roadside, In addition, 35 km of virtual fencing will be installed, an installation that is permeable to the passage of wildlife but prevents collisions, based on flashes of light and sound towards the interior of the road, which will warn the animal and prevent it from crossing the road.
