The Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (Spanish National Research Council), by article 47 of Law 14/2011, of 1 June, on Science, Technology and Innovation (“Science Law"), is a Public Research Body (OPI) of the General State Administration, attached to the Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación through the Secretaría General de Investigación. Its main objective is to develop and promote research for scientific and technological progress. Its mission is to promote, coordinate, develop and disseminate multidisciplinary scientific and technological research to contribute to the advancement of knowledge and economic, social and cultural development, as well as to train personnel and advise public and private entities in these matters.

The Doñana Biological Station (EBD) is a CSIC research institute that carries out multidisciplinary research in ecology and the environment to understand the way in which biodiversity is generated, maintained or deteriorated, as well as the consequences of its loss and the possibilities for its conservation and restoration.

Researches carried out at the EBD-CSIC have a multidisciplinary approach; natural history, evolution, ecology, systematics, biogeography, genetics and conservation biology of organisms and their habitats. The scientific knowledge is applied to manage and protect biodiversity in all its forms.

EBD scientist have led research on the Iberian Lynx in recent decades, covering aspects such as ecology, distribution, demography and genetics.
