Workshop “Monitoring and Research of Large Carnivores in Spain and Norway”.
April 15, 2024
The LynxConnect project was visited in Seville by technicians and researchers from the Norwegian Institute for Nature Research https://www.nina.no/english/Home on 9 and 10 April.
Organised by the Junta de Andalucía and the Estación Biológica de Doñana, it counted with the telematic participation of the project partners.
At the working meeting on the 9th, presentations were given by technicians from the different entities, in which they explained the historical evolution of the Iberian lynx populations, how the Iberian lynx population is monitored, how health control is carried out and how the rabbit population, the main food source of the species, is monitored.
The Biological Station explained its work on the genetic reinforcement of the species, given that this is one of its main problems.
For their part, the staff of the Norwegian Institute for Nature Research spoke about their work in monitoring different species of mammals, such as bears, wolves and European lynx, as well as the database that centralises all the information, and which allows alphanumeric and spatial consultation through a geographic viewer.
On 10 April, a visit was made to Doñana to see the EBD facilities and to see different aspects of lynx monitoring in situ.
